Can you believe it’s already the end of the year again? 😭 Like seriously, baru ja rasa Januari tu hari tu. Sekarang sudah November and here we go again… kerja bertimbun, nak beli flight ticket balik kampung, Christmas shopping list belum siap, sekolah anak pula nak minta annual fee. And of course, the yearly wish “nak kurus before New Year” (which never happen hahaha).
As a Borneo working mom living in Semenanjung M'sia, year-end season always feels like a marathon. But here’s a few things I usually do (or at least try to do 😂) to stay sane sampai masuk tahun baru.
1. Slow down, mama!
We don’t have to do everything at once. Sometimes I remind myself, “kalau penat, rest dulu.” Don’t feel guilty kalau nak nap kejap, or just duduk minum kopi sambil scroll Shopee (as long as tak checkout lagi 😆). Life bukan race, mama, pace yourself.
2. Budget itu penting
End of year = duit keluar laju macam air paip bocor. Flight ticket, Christmas gift, baju anak, school fee… semua mau sekarang.
So what I do, I list down semua dalam notes phone, tengok mana must pay dulu, mana boleh hold dulu. Kalau tidak, hujung bulan confirm pening tengok akaun bank tinggal RM5.20 🤣
3. Kerja boleh tunggu, mental health tidak
Let’s be real, kerja hujung tahun memang banyak. But try not to carry office stress balik rumah. Once clock-out, just clock out betul-betul. Anak pun deserve happy mama, bukan zombie mama. Kalau boss bagi kerja last minute on Friday evening… just senyum and say, “Noted, will look at it Monday ya.” 😏
4. Keep Christmas simple
Tak payah stress sangat mau perfect. Kalau sempat beli hadiah, okay. Kalau tak, bagi kad pun sweet bah. I even bake cookies sekali setahun (itu pun kalau mood rajin datang 🤭). Christmas bukan siapa paling banyak decoration, tapi siapa paling banyak kasih sayang.
5. Nak kurus tu bagus, tapi jangan stress
Every year mesti ada azam nak kurus. Tapi antara kita lah kan kadang makan sebab stress pun ada. So this year, I tell myself: just move more, eat better, and don’t overthink. Kalau ter-makan kek dua slice pun, it’s okay. Kita happy, kan? 😅
6. Take time to reflect
Before masuk tahun baru, I like to spend one quiet night just thinking what went well this year, what I’m grateful for. Kadang sambil lipat baju pun boleh reflect. The goal is not to be perfect next year, but to be more peaceful.
