Life Story: From Borrowing a car from friend to Owning our new car

Two weeks ago, we officially received our car here in Kajang. Funny thing is, buying a car wasn’t even in our plan. We already had our trusty DMax back in Sabah, but since we didn’t bring it over, we thought we could manage without one for a while.

At first, we borrowed a friend’s car. It helped us a lot during those first few weeks and honestly, I’m forever grateful for that kindness. But as days went by, reality hit: with work, school runs, errands, and family needs, we couldn’t depend on borrowing forever. That’s when we realized this wasn’t about wanting a car, it was about needing one.

Here’s what I’ve learned from this whole experience:

  1. Life Doesn’t Always Follow Our Plan
We thought we could “make do” for a while. But moving back to Kajang shifted our priorities. Sometimes, accepting change is the wisest thing we can do.

  2. Needs Come Before Wants
This purchase wasn’t about showing off or chasing dreams. It was a practical step for our family’s daily stability. And that’s perfectly okay.

  3. Gratitude Makes the Journey Lighter
From the borrowed car that carried us through the few months, to the one we now call our own, every step is a blessing. It reminded me to see provision in different forms, even when it’s not according to our timeline.

This car may not be in our original plan, but it’s exactly what we need right now. More than just a vehicle, it represents adjustment, provision, and a new chapter for our family here in Kajang.

If you’re in a season of transition too, my little reminder is this: don’t be afraid to adapt. Sometimes the things we never planned for become the very things that help us move forward.
