If the younger me could read this post or see what I am doing today, I think she would be surprised. Hahahaha!
Kalau kenal saya pada awal-awal saya masuk dunia pekerjaan dulu, you would probably know that I was not someone who enjoyed speaking in front of people. Bekas rakan sekerja saya di Sony mesti tau, kalau korang baca ni, diam-diam saja lah hahaha.
In fact, I hated it!
Kalau boleh, saya memang tak nak bercakap depan orang, tak nak kena present, tak nak explain anything and kalau boleh, janganlah tanya saya soalan. Hahahaha!
I was that person who would rather stay quietly behind the scenes and get my work done.
But funny how life works, right?
Somewhere along the way, things started to change.
After moving back to Semenanjung Malaysia from Borneo, I went through a period of unemployment for five months before returning to the working world.
And honestly, I never expected that this new chapter of my career would introduce me to a side of myself that I had never really explored.
I started to enjoy presenting, sharing ideas, explaining things and talking in front of other people.
Not just presenting during meetings, but also conducting talks, sharing sessions, training and workshops.
The funny thing is, I actually look forward to these opportunities now!
Of course, I still get nervous sometimes. That feeling of excitement and nervousness before standing in front of people is still there. But somehow, I have learned to enjoy the thrill of it.
It's different when you talk about something you love.
I think one of the reasons I started enjoying public speaking is because I realized that I genuinely love sharing knowledge and experiences.
Especially when I get to talk about something I know, something I have experienced or something that could help other people.
I love explaining things, making complicated processes easier to understand and helping people figure things out.
And when I know that what I share can make someone's job easier, save their time or even make their working life a little better, that makes me happy.
It gives me a different kind of satisfaction.
I guess I am slowly discovering that I don't just enjoy doing the work. I also enjoy sharing what I know with others.
Maybe we just haven't discovered that side of ourselves yet.
Looking back, I find it interesting how much we can change without even realizing it.
The younger me would probably laugh if she knew that one day I would actually enjoy standing in front of people, conducting training sessions and sharing my experiences.
But here I am.
Still learning, still growing and slowly becoming more comfortable with something I used to avoid so much.
I don't think I suddenly became a confident public speaker overnight. I believe it happened through experiences, opportunities and being willing to step outside my comfort zone.
And perhaps that's the beauty of growing up.
Sometimes, we discover new interests, passions and abilities at a stage of life when we least expect them.
Who knows? Maybe this is another little passion that I am meant to explore.
For now, give me a microphone, a topic I love and an opportunity to share knowledge. I might still be nervous, but trust me, I will enjoy every minute of it!
Hahahaha!
Here's to discovering new versions of ourselves, even the ones we never imagined we would become. ❤️
