I’m so excited to share this little fashion journey on my blog!
For the first time ever, I decided to have a custom-made dress made just for me. I’ve bought so many ready-to-wear clothes over the years, but I’ve never actually had a dress made according to my own measurements and preferences. So when I finally decided to do it, I thought, Why not document the whole process?
And there’s another little story behind this. I asked the same seamstress who made my wedding dress to make this dress for me. My wedding dress was made back in 2019, so it feels quite special to return to the same person after all these years and ask her to make another dress for me. This time, though, it’s not a wedding dress.
It’s simply a dress that I wanted because I liked the design and thought it would be nice to have something made specifically for me.
The First Process: Taking My Measurements
So, where does a custom dress actually begin? With measurements!
Before the sewing begins, my seamstress took my measurements so that the dress could be made according to my body. Bust, waist, hips, dress length and all those little measurements that I normally don't think about when buying clothes. Usually, when I shop for clothes, I’m thinking:
“Okay, what size am I?”
This time, it was different.
There was no S, M, L or XL.
It was simply: “Let’s measure you.” And honestly, I really enjoyed the process. There’s something quite exciting about knowing that the dress will be created based on my measurements, rather than me trying to fit myself into a standard size.
This is only the beginning, but I’m already excited to see how everything turns out. I can’t wait for the next step seeing the actual dress come together! For now, this is Step 1 of my first ever custom dress journey.
I’m so happy I decided to do this, and I can’t wait to share the next process with you! Stay tuned...
