Being a working mom already feels like juggling two full-time roles, one at home, one at work. But there’s another layer that we don’t always talk about.
The emotional side of work.
The unseen challenges.
The moments that quietly test your patience, your strength, and your character.
This is something I’ve been learning to navigate, not perfectly, but intentionally. And along the way, I realized…these moments are not just challenges.
They are lessons.
Lesson #1: Every Workplace Comes With Its Own Challenges
Over time, I’ve come to realize that no workplace is perfect. Different environments, different people, different expectations…but there will always be moments that stretch you in ways you didn’t expect.
I used to think that maybe a different place would feel easier. But now I understand, it’s not about finding a place without challenges. It’s about becoming someone who can handle them better. And somehow, that mindset shift made me feel lighter.
Lesson #2: Not Everyone Will Understand You and That’s Okay
As moms, we’re used to being understanding, patient, and accommodating. But at work, not everyone will see your effort the way you hope they would. And that can feel frustrating. But I’ve learned this, you don’t need to be understood by everyone and you just need to stay grounded in who you are
Because your values should not change just because someone else doesn’t see them.
Lesson #3: Protect Your Energy, You Need It More at Home
After work, we don’t just rest. We continue as mothers, as partners, as caregivers.
That’s why I started asking myself “Is this worth carrying home with me?”
Not every situation deserves your energy. Not every moment needs to stay in your heart.
Sometimes, choosing peace is the strongest thing you can do. Because your child deserves a version of you that is present, not drained.
Lesson #4: Boundaries Are a Form of Self-Respect
There was a time I said yes to everything. More work. More pressure. More emotional weight.
But motherhood changed that. Now I understand that protecting my time and energy is part of my responsibility. not just to myself, but to my family.
Saying “no” doesn’t make you difficult. It makes you aware.
Lesson #5: Pause Before You Respond
There are moments at work that can trigger emotions, frustration, confusion, even self-doubt.
And I’ve had to learn this the hard way:Not every feeling needs an immediate reaction.Sometimes, the best thing you can do is pause.Take a breath. And choose your response carefully.
Because how you respond matters more than what happened.
Lesson #6: Focus on Your Growth, Not Just the Situation
There will always be things you cannot control. But there is one thing you always can which is Your direction.
Instead of getting caught in situations that drain me, I’ve been learning to redirect my focus on becoming better at what I do, showing up with integrity and building a life beyond just work
Because this job is part of my journey, not my entire story.
Lesson #7: You Are Growing, Even When It Feels Heavy
Some days are harder than others. Some moments stay with you longer than they should. But if you look closely, you’ll realize something:
You are learning.
You are adapting.
You are becoming stronger.
Quietly, but surely.
To every working mom reading this:
If work has been emotionally heavy lately,if you’ve been navigating things silently…
You’re not alone.
Not everything needs to be fixed. Not everything needs to be explained.
Some things are simply part of the journey, shaping you into someone wiser, calmer, and stronger.
And that growth?
It matters.
Let’s Talk 🤍
Have you ever gone through a challenging phase at work?
What helped you stay grounded?
I’d love to hear your story or feel free to share this with another working mom who might need it today.
